“Great show. I’m a rookie. The first time I listened to your show was the night you did the interview with Wayne Johnson. What a good line, “I beat the best of the best with a whole lot less.” Loved that line!

I listened again tonight because I wanted to hear Steve Williams from Alltel. I think Alltel is to be commended for the support they have shown. I respect their decision to have Ryan as their only driver. I don’t agree with the reasoning. I think they would be surprised what a boost they would see in sales if they would support Wayne Johnson, for example. He has extremely loyal fans. I know people who went right out and bought Alltel phones and service just to support the company that is behind this awesome promotion. I personally think sprint car fans are the most loyal. I saw a survey that was done a couple of years ago that showed that sprint car racing fans support the companies that support sprint car racing. We do. We were some of the folks that ran out and got Alltel phones and service.

You guys made some great points in the early part of the show when talking about the future of WOO and the future of racing in general.

I have some thoughts.

I agree, the economy is a huge factor. Parents just can’t afford to spend the huge amount necessary to take their kids to the races. Not only are the tickets expensive but there are always the concessions and other items to be purchased. If kids don’t get used to going to the races regularly they aren’t going to be race fans as adults.
Another factor with the economy is the huge amount the tracks have to pay to get the sanctioning bodies to show up. I personally think that is one reason some of these races are being canceled and/or not scheduled in the first place.

With the WOO having the high dollar teams the locals aren’t going to show up to race. It’s tough to compete against a driver with a $1.5million/yr budget. Unless, of course you’re Wayne Johnson. He showed up at Volusia and borrowed a motor and shocks and had a friend scrounge up some tires and
he beat “the best of the best with a whole lot less!!? Diamond in the rough.

The guy that has a blank check and a stash of motors has a huge advantage over the guy with one motor (borrowed in some cases). The low budget guy can race as well but has to be ultraconservative with equipment. If the car starts to shake - the low budget guy will pull off in case it is the motor.
The high budget guy will keep pushing and if the motor blows - no big deal because s/he has about 8 more ready to go.

So, money is a huge factor.

You were so right on target when you mentioned the cost of fuel. It’s a huge factor for the race teams and the fans. It hasn’t kept us home yet but it sure costs more to go than it did five years ago.

The lack of cars is only going to get worse unless some creative ideas are implemented and are effective.

I’ve been going to races for 55 years and don’t want to stop now.

I’ll tune in again. You guys do a great job.”
